Defeat Is Not Final
Have you ever felt like you were down and out with no hope of making a comeback? Or perhaps, right now in your life you’re currently dealing with a setback. Well, I’ll tell you this, one of the root causes of failure when it comes to life’s pursuits is yielding to the pressure of temporary defeat.
Temporary defeat? Yes! Because no defeat in itself is long-lasting except you permit such to become permanent or linger longer than necessary. More often than not, before success is attained, one is sure to meet with many ups and downs, rejections, setbacks, defeats, and failures.
In retrospect, I’ve come to realize that when faced with defeat or rejection, the easiest and most logical thing that comes to mind is to quit and withdraw into self-pity. That is exactly what majority of people do, they withdraw in order to nurse their pain and hurts in despair. This, of course, is a very dangerous situation to be in and you’d need to understand that defeat in itself is not final. Bruce Lee once quoted saying, “Defeat is a state of the mind; no one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.” So, whether you got laid off from work, failed a job interview or couldn’t pass your University Exams, you still need to know that it isn’t the end of the road.
When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Gets Going
Personally, I’ve had my share of rejections, disappointments and discouragements. But then, I’ve come to learn that the solution does not lie in running away from challenges. When rejections come against you charging like a Bull, that is the best time to exercise some dogged determination to succeed and make the most out of it. Because when the going gets tough, the tough gets going, that is the spirit of Champions!
Failing Does Not Make You A Failure
Without any sense of doubt, rejection or defeat can be very devastating but you must not allow it to crush or define you. You need to see setbacks from a new perspective; See failure as a resource and opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently. In conclusion, failing does not make you a failure. It’s an event and not a person. So, when you find yourself in any situation of defeat, don’t despair! Take a lesson from the situation and move on. Recharge yourself if you have to, re-focus on your goals and ‘boom’ re-bound!
