Do you remember how you felt the preceding night when your Mortgage or Insurance Direct Debit was to go out of your account and the money to honour the transaction wasn’t there?
Perhaps, how you felt when a letter came in the post requesting that you pay up the bills you owe on your credit cards or be charged to court. What about your state of mind when you got a phone call from your GP advising that you’re urgently required for a checkup to prevent a terminal illness? One common thread of reaction runs through all of these and that is the 5-lettered word called W-O-R-R-Y !
Worry is an emotional condition that develops as a result of concerns about one area of life or the other ranging from Personal, Health, Family, Work and so on. It’s a condition that threatens the peace of mind and affects one’s ability to make good judgement or right decisions. Worry is a dangerous condition because it’s a doorway to many other vices like Fear, Stress, Nervousness, Depression, Sickness and so on. And the Medics will be quick to mention that worrying lowers the supply of Oxygen to the brain thus lowering the Immune System. We all need to make the concerted effort not to worry or give in to any anxiety because we stand to gain nothing but lose a whole lot by worrying.
The Bible says, “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” Instead of worrying, I’ll advise like Bobby McFerrin in his song ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy.’
