The subject of vision couldn’t be more important today than it was some years and decades ago. This is simply because vision is so powerful that it determines how far you’d go, how efficient you’d be and how successful your life will turn out. Practically, you’re today a sum total of what you have envisioned.
So, what is vision? In its simplest form, vision is the picture that you hold about your future. It is your ability to conceptualize a compelling dream of your desired end. I remember the story told of how the legendary entrepreneur Waltz Disney conceived the vision of an amusement park called Disneyland. He was sat on a bench at an amusement park, watching his daughters play, he noticed how ragged and filthy the small amusement park was. In addition to that, he carefully observed people’s reactions to the different rides and more importantly how the parents of the kids had nothing to do and thereby anxious to go home even when their children were having tons of fun.
Right on that spot, Waltz Disney conceived the idea of a new type of amusement park. One that will be as clean as can be, with loads of attraction for both the children and their parents. Years later, on the opening day of Disneyland amusement park, Waltz stood in his apartment, looked out from the window and saw the crowd trooping in through the gates. A tear ran down his cheek, and lo, the moment he had envisioned.
Therefore, vision is the bridge between the present and your future.
There are 4 compartments of vision;
To have a hindsight is to have an understanding of a situation or event after it has happened. So, one reason why this compartment of vision is important is because it helps you to look back and take stock of the journey of your life with the view of making a forward progress.
To have an insight is to have a deeper idea of things. It’s like viewing life through a microscope which furnishes you with clearer, richer and bolder details of things or events.
Foresight is the capacity to look into the future and see possibilities for yourself. It’s like viewing life through a telescope. This side of vision turbo-charges you with the momentum to pursue and realise your dream.
To have an oversight is to have an overview of your life’s journey, some sort of helicopter view of where you’re headed. This is the part of vision that connects it to God in order to make it happen for you. This delivers to you what I call “The Vision-Advantage.”
Any vision conceived by the mind under the influence of God has a guaranteed status of becoming an amazing reality!
According to T.E. Lawrence, “All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to the day to find it was all vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for the many act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”
Therefore, it’s important to have a vision for your life because it creates in you a sense of mission. It equips you with a mindset of purpose and bring you to a place of fulfilment in life.
