Some years ago as a very young teenager, I met a middle-aged man who left a huge impression on me about the habit of reading books. Every pay day, this man would head up to the bookshops in town and the next minute, we’re unpacking piles of books from his car into his study. He left me wondering “Why this huge appetite for learning?”
Today, I wonder no more because I can vividly see the impact and results of his gross habit of investing where his passion lied. He is absolutely on top of his game and industry, and this I can extrapolate to those times of reading, learning and studying.
Knowingly or unknowingly, I caught this same fire for reading and my life has never been the same again.
If we take a peep at your library, what books would we see? I think we’ll possibly guess where you’re heading with just a visit to your personal library.
“Put your money where your passion lies.”
What books do you read?
Books are a great resource and reading a good habit. Not that reading guarantees success but it sure increases your chance of succeeding. And I suppose you don’t expect to feed your mind with junk or trash and expect greatness to magically happen to you or fall on your laps.
It boils down to the popular acronym GIGO. GIGO stands for Garbage In Garbage Out, meaning what you give is what you get in return. What you eat, eats you up. More importantly, you can give what you don’t have. So, what you feed your mind with, your mind will reproduce for you.
“Books are like windows on the hinges of reading; they swing open into the world full of discoveries.”
Invest in materials that will fan the flame of your desire to succeed. I also have made it a personal habit of investing a certain percentage of my monthly earnings in acquiring books whether e-books, hardcovers or paperbacks. And it doesn’t really matter how much you allocate to this but what matters is that you’re reading, extracting and putting to use those priceless hints of success hidden in the pages of books you read.
This is worth mentioning again: Don’t just buy the books, read them also as it wouldn’t do you or those around you any good by decorating your shelves with them as some people do. When you develop a habit of reading, it fuels, drives and programs you for a successful lifestyle.
“Readers are indeed Leaders.”
