Discouragement is a deadly thing to habour and this is because of its tendency to leave you feeling exhausted, frustrated, worried and tired of living your life. It depletes enthusiasm and the drive to pursue your goals and dreams. Ironically, we all get discouraged in one way or the other as we journey through life but not all of us know how to manage, deal with or even nip discouragement in the bud. But here below is what works for me…
#1. I Run To God For Help
David in the bible is one character I love and honestly connect with every time I study God’s word. Firstly, for his contagious passion and affection for God and the things of God expressed throughout the pages of the bible. Secondly, for his deep sincerity with himself in the circumstances he found himself. In my opinion, these two qualities made God to declare David as a man after God’s heart regardless of David’s vulnerabilities. Whenever you find or catch yourself feeling discouraged, I’ll advise that FIRST you approach God to seek for help; to draw strength, wisdom and direction in order to overcome the emotions of discouragement.
When we make God the center of our lives and become sold-out to him. We are bound to encounter times of discouragement and disappointment. Times of sadness and discomfort. But like David, we only need to come true to ourselves and face the reality of the situation at hand. Knowing fully well that God desires the best for us. So, you just need to encourage yourself in the Lord.
#2. I Resolve Not To Give Up
Whatever the stage, phase or season of life you’re in right now, don’t give up! Always remember that God is good and he loves you so dearly. So, PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD!
In Psalm 42 verses 1-5, lies one of those moments of reflection and encouragement David had with himself. Oh! How comforting this is. And it’s my prayer for you that this passage of the bible will bring you the encourage you need right now in the name of Jesus, Amen!
1 As the deer pants for water, so I long for you, O God.
2 I thirst for God, the living God. Where can I find him to come and stand before him?
3 Day and night I weep for his help, and all the while my enemies taunt me. “Where is this God of yours?” they scoff.
4-5 Take courage, my soul! Do you remember those times (but how could you ever forget them!) when you led a great procession to the Temple on festival days, singing with joy, praising the Lord? Why then be downcast? Why be discouraged and sad? Hope in God! I shall yet praise him again. Yes, I shall again praise him for his help. [TLB]
