A preacher once told the story of an experience and observation he made during a hurricane. It was a tale of resilience in the face of a raging storm. And this was about a palm tree defying the brutal force of a hurricane. As the strong wind currents traveled, it made a dash across the city landscape collapsing and destroying houses, uprooting infrastructures and all kinds of trees…but one. The palm tree resisted and withstood the pressures from all around its vicinity.
Anyway, by the time the hurricane had come and gone, it left the palm tree completely bent over. And as people began to survey the remains, they surmised that the palm tree would be bent over for the rest of its life. But in defiance, after 6 hours, the palm tree stood right back up. You know what? God had put a bounce back in the palm tree for such a time as that.
“You’ve got the power to bounce back no matter what comes your way!”
And here is the good news: You’ve got the power to bounce back no matter what comes your way! Are you going through a challenging or difficult time and contemplating to quit, give up or throw in the towel? Well, here is my simple advice to you;
#1. Understand That We All Face Challenges
No matter what your pedigree is and so long as you’re a human, you’re bound to face difficult or challenging situations. It’s only a matter of when, where and how. There isn’t any single individual who’s got immunity from tough times, we all at some point in life, go through crisis and adversity. So, cheer up and chin up!
#2. Tough Times Never Last
It was Robert Schuller who wrote, “Tough times never last but tough people do.” This further amplifies the reality that storms don’t last always. It’s always for a season. The writer of Ecclesiastes in chapter 3 verse 1 makes us to understand that there is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven.
"Whatever the challenge, difficulty, trouble or pain, be rest assured that this too shall pass."
Storms will come, storms will go but what matters most is that you remain unbroken. Whatever the challenge, difficulty, trouble or pain, be rest assured that this too shall pass.
#3. Draw Your Strength From God
I personally have found out that as human beings, we need God to keep sane in the face of troubles. Whenever it appears like your life is wading against the currents of misery or the tides of hardship and distress are raging against your peace of mind. That is when you need God the most. Let God be your superhero, the anchor and strength of your life.
“Trust in God’s ability to see you through difficult times.”
Trust in God’s ability to see you through difficult times. Challenging circumstances or situations may want you down and out to loose your mind but God wants to keep your mind intact, strong and delivered. The truth is this: we are better positioned to survive and thrive in hard times when we seek help from God.
#4. You’ve Got What It Takes To Overcome
Just like the palm tree, God has built into your DNA and wired into the fabrics of your being, the ability to bounce back. You’ve got what it takes to overcome and survive challenging times. In you lies the power to withstand depression, devastation, despair, desolation, recession, hopelessness, raging storms or what have you. I’d love that you understand that you’re born to overcome because a bend in the road is not the end of the road. Stay strong!
#5. Challenges Bring The Best Out Of Us
Horatio Spafford, a wealthy lawyer from Chicago in 1870 lost his only son to a scarlet fever and a year later in the great Chicago fire lost all his real estate wealth. Some years later, this same man lost his four daughters in a tragic shipwreck and very devastated, he wrote the words, “When peace like a river attendeth my way. When sorrows like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.” Now, a very popular hymn often sung in churches today but was written in a very tragic moment. Your best is yet to come!
#6. Resolve To Finish Strong
No matter the odds stacked against you, be unbroken. For the greatest good you can do to yourself is to be resolute in your decision to finish strong. This power lies in your ability to visualise and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Decide to overcome and win no matter what life throws at you. Take on and embrace the spirit and attitude of a champion. That attitude that remains unbroken in the face of difficult and challenging times. The ability to rise up again and again at every fall or failure. The undying and dogged determination to succeed in the pursuit of greatness, success and significance.
