A constitution is a set of written or unwritten beliefs and laws of a nation or corporation. It is regarded as a set of basic principles by which a state or organisation is governed. Therefore, a personal constitution is a personal statement of principles that guides and propels an individual’s action, conduct or behaviour. It is popularly referred to as a mission or purpose statement.
I once read the story of a well established organisation that hired a consultant to help with charting a new course for its business. To do this, the consultant began engagement with the company’s leadership team. He asked 13 directors to articulate simply and clearly the core mission of the organisation. To his surprise, he got 8 different answers. Now, that sounds very typical of some businesses or institutions.

In my opinion, marriages don’t get in the ruts because of the lack of love but the lack of purpose and direction. And to give your marriage or relationship a sense of purpose and direction, you’d need to define what you want, where you’re going, when, how, and why.
